PRO 30 vs PROTEX® 40 vs PROTEX® 50: Which Sun Leisure Gazebo is Right for You?
When choosing between our three gazebo models, consider how often you’ll use your shelter, where you’ll set it up, and how far you’ll need to carry it. The PRO 30, PROTEX® 40, and PROTEX® 50 are all quick to set up and take down, but each is designed for a different type of user.

All three come with a 12-month general warranty and a lifetime warranty on joints and brackets.
PRO 30: Our Original Steel Gazebo
The PRO 30 was Sun Leisure’s first model, designed more than 30 years ago, but it’s still a trusted selection for leisure and light commercial use. It has a powder-coated steel frame with a 39mm square profile and galvanised steel footplates. The 350g canopy is water-resistant up to 4000mm, with thermally taped seams and double stitching at all stress points.
It’s great for picnics, BBQs and occasional events where you only need to set up the gazebo a few times each season. Sizes range from 2m x 2m to 3m x 6m, with options like 4.5m x 3m and 5m x 2.5m. If you want a reliable shelter at the best price in our range, the PRO 30 is a great place to start.
PROTEX® 40: Lightweight Aluminium for Regular Use
The PROTEX® 40 uses a high-quality aluminium frame with a 46mm hexagonal profile and internal ribbing. It has the same shape and frame design as the PROTEX® 50, but it’s lighter and easier to handle. The 3m x 3m frame weighs 25kg, slightly less than the steel PRO 30, even though the legs are bigger.
The 380g canopy has extra ribbing on the outside and the gazebo comes with a wheeled storage bag that fits the frame with the roof still on. This makes the PROTEX® 40 a great choice for market traders, caterers, and event teams who set up most weekends. PROTEX® 50: Industrial Strength for Demanding Sites
The PROTEX® 50 is our strongest model, made for commercial and industrial use. Its aluminium frame has a 58mm hexagonal profile, with cast alloy joints and brackets instead of reinforced nylon. The 550g canopy is the thickest of the three, and the valance is 20cm higher for more headroom.
It’s the only one of the three with an official wind rating. The PROTEX® 50 3m x 3m can handle gusts up to 100km/h when anchored properly, though ratings change with size. It does weigh 41kg for the 3m x 3m frame, so you’ll probably need help setting it up.
Sizes range from 2m x 3m up to 8m x 4m, including a 6m hexagonal gazebo. The bigger sizes are great for motorsport paddocks and outdoor hospitality. If you want to show off your logo, check out our branded gazebos.
Standard vs Compact: What’s the Difference?
Our compact gazebos have an extra leg-extension joint that lets them fold down smaller. Both the PRO 30 and PROTEX® 40 compact models fold down to 110cm tall, so they’re much easier to fit in a car boot. You still get the same frame, canopy, and height settings as the standard version, so it’s really about how you want to transport and store your gazebo.
The PRO 30 is available as a 3m x 3m compact. The PROTEX® 40 comes in 2m x 2m, 2m x 3m, and 3m x 3m compact sizes, but there’s no compact PROTEX® 50 yet. You can see all the options on our compact gazebos page, or learn why compact gazebos are great for small vehicles.
Where Does Commercial Fit In?
Our Commercial & Industrial range includes the PROTEX® 40 and PROTEX® 50, designed for heavier and more frequent use. The Garden & Leisure range has the PRO 30 and the PROTEX® 40, so you’ll see the PROTEX® 40 in both categories. All models have fully waterproof fabrics, and you can add sidewalls if you want.
